Catholic Charities U.S.A. chose Tarrant County Family Pathfinders as one of the most successful and compassionate programs working with families on public assistance in the country. They highlighted Tarrant County Family Pathfinders in a documentary that was shown in a nationwide tele-conference.

The state office for Family Pathfinders moved to the Texas Department of
Human Services.
October 1998
$40,000 grant awarded to Tarrant County Family Pathfinders from the Tarrant County Workforce Development Board. Due to this grant, Kate Hephner stays on as the Director of Tarrant County Family Pathfinders. This makes Tarrant County the first independent, self-supporting Family Pathfinders site in Texas.
Summer 1998
Tarrant County Family Pathfinders became the first program site in Texas to hold a volunteer recognition event - called “Celebration of Success”. In subsequent years the event was held at Lockheed Martin Activities Complex and the attendance from the members of the community has more than doubled.

Family Pathfinders named Daily Points of Light Award Winner by the Points of Light Foundation in Washington D.C.
July 1998
$5,000.00 grant award to Tarrant County Family Pathfinders by the United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County.
October 1997
Kate Hephner joins the staff of Tarrant Area Community of Churches through a grant by the Corporation for National Service. Kate acts as the AmeriCorps VISTA Coordinator to get the program started in Tarrant County.
August 1997
Family Pathfinders receives a federal VISTA grant to place 20 full-time workers throughout the state of Texas.
Spring 1997
Tarrant Area Community of Churches forms a covenant with the state of Texas to be the Tarrant County sponsor for Family Pathfinders.
October 1996
Community members in Tarrant County form a steering committee to develop a Family Pathfinders site in their area.
September 1996
Family Pathfinders was created by John Sharp – Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Program was a response to federal legislation placing a five-year limit on welfare benefits. |
