The Mentoring program was recognized for Best Practices by Urban Partnership Initiatives of the Department of Health and Human Services.

John Peter Smith Hospital receives the Transitional Worker Award for their participation in the Career Steps Adult Program.

Family Pathfinders receives Workforce Solutions funding to start a Career Steps Youth Program. This program provides subsidized work experience for at risk youth.

Kathryn Arnold is named as the new Executive Director for Family Pathfinders of Tarrant County, Inc. The Career Steps Program receives the Texas Economic Development Council Best Workforce Practices Award.

March 2004
Tarrant County Family Pathfinders becomes Family Pathfinders of Tarrant County, Inc. with the acceptance of incorporation application and 501(c) 3 status. Family Pathfinders of Tarrant County becomes independent of Tarrant Area Community of Churches.

February 2004
Tarrant County Family Pathfinders’ Career Steps Program is recognized by the Tarrant County Workforce Development Board with the Community Provider Excellence Award.

2002-2003
Tarrant County Family Pathfinders is part of a three year study being conducted by the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C. The Urban Institute is tracking eleven welfare-to-work programs across the country to determine the effectiveness of various methods. Family Pathfinders was also selected in a nationwide review of mentoring programs done by the State University of New York University Center for Academic and Workforce Development.

February 2003
Tarrant County Family Pathfinders received the “Outstanding Service to Women” Award from the Women’s Policy Forum in Fort Worth.

August 2002
Funding from the Tarrant County Workforce Development to Family Pathfinders reaches an all-time high of $160,000.00.

April 2002
Tarrant County Family Pathfinders started a pilot project designed to place low income people in community service positions. Career Steps helps the welfare recipients gain valuable job experience and better guarantee their success when they move to self-sufficiency.

April 2001
Tarrant County Family Pathfinders received the “Family Service Award” from the League of Women Voters of Tarrant County.

June 2000
Tarrant County Family Pathfinders received the first ever "Partnership in Workforce Excellence” award from the Work Advantage Board. The award was presented by Mayor Kenneth Barr, Mayor Elzie Odom and Tarrant County Judge Thomas Vandergriff.

June 1999
Catholic Charities U.S.A. chose Tarrant County Family Pathfinders as one of the most successful and compassionate programs working with families on public assistance in the country. They highlighted Tarrant County Family Pathfinders in a documentary that was shown in a nationwide tele-conference.

The state office for Family Pathfinders moved to the Texas Department of Human Services.

October 1998
$40,000 grant awarded to Tarrant County Family Pathfinders from the Tarrant County Workforce Development Board. Due to this grant, Kate Hephner stays on as the Director of Tarrant County Family Pathfinders. This makes Tarrant County the first independent, self-supporting Family Pathfinders site in Texas.

Summer 1998
Tarrant County Family Pathfinders became the first program site in Texas to hold a volunteer recognition event - called “Celebration of Success”. In subsequent years the event was held at Lockheed Martin Activities Complex and the attendance from the members of the community has more than doubled.

May 1998
Family Pathfinders named Daily Points of Light Award Winner by the Points of Light Foundation in Washington D.C.

July 1998
$5,000.00 grant award to Tarrant County Family Pathfinders by the United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County.

October 1997
Kate Hephner joins the staff of Tarrant Area Community of Churches through a grant by the Corporation for National Service. Kate acts as the AmeriCorps VISTA Coordinator to get the program started in Tarrant County.

August 1997
Family Pathfinders receives a federal VISTA grant to place 20 full-time workers throughout the state of Texas.

Spring 1997
Tarrant Area Community of Churches forms a covenant with the state of Texas to be the Tarrant County sponsor for Family Pathfinders.

October 1996
Community members in Tarrant County form a steering committee to develop a Family Pathfinders site in their area.

September 1996
Family Pathfinders was created by John Sharp – Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Program was a response to federal legislation placing a five-year limit on welfare benefits.
